There are many aspects of an Onboarding programme that are common across all organisations: a welcoming feel, a great structure, comprehensiveness, practical usefulness, and a good guide to company values and its ethos.
However, what we’ve seen is that perhaps the most important factor of all is – quite simply - the ‘first impressions’ a company wants to give to new starts of what the company experience is going to be. Onboarding programmes, which increasingly include pre-start activities, can be the very first real interaction an employee has with his or her new company or team. It can be a once-in-a-career opportunity for the company to set out its expectations of excellence, and can show an employee that it’s important to the company that employees enjoy their working experience.
