How to build trust

building-trust---logicearth

You know what you want to say you know your audience, so how do you tailor your specific message so that your communication is clearly understood?

A big part of answering that question is - well let's say it's a history lesson...

"Remember the Atkins account and how I..."

"Forgot the name of the sales manager!"

"Yeah so you put that org chart together for me that I..."

"got mixed up with the sales log"

"well, I've set up a file sharing site to manage my sales Docs."

"great idea."

Jack and Sophia have some history they've communicated before they can finish each other's sentences. so Jack knows, that Sophia knows, exactly what he's talking about.

The better you know someone the easier it is to communicate with them, that's just how it works. When you understand someone there is common ground and a foundation of trust and that helps. So it's worth asking yourself what history or

background you have with whoever you're talking to. If you've never had any dealings with the person find out as much as you can about their role, do your homework recap what you know - but don't make any assumptions.

Try and figure out their typical behavior type are they assertive, reflective, passive, reactive? Figure that out, and you'll know the best way to communicate with them. Another thing that's worth considering about your audience is their knowledge of your intended message. Have you discussed the topic before are they well informed on the subject. Based on Sophia's existing knowledge and shared history with Jack she knows how to get along with him which helps her to get her message across.

Our past experiences don't just shape us they also shape how we communicate and by keeping that in mind you'll hit the nail on the head the next time you need to make a point or influence a key player. Good communication is key.
